The day I had been looking forward to for months finally arrived: The bike for MS tour in New York City. Meagan and Ashley thanks for jumping in on the adventure!!!! We left on Saturday at noon after loading up the bikes on a pretty ghetto bike rack I borrowed....yes, duct tape was involved.
can you see the excitement on Ashley's face?
In our hotel room in Jersey City ready to head out for dinner at times square

So, this was my first time ever in New York and I loved it!

Carb-loading the night before the big day is always fun. no, we didn't eat all of this, we made a little dent in it......

Our alarm clock went off at 4:30 am, we were out the door at 4:50am riding to the subway station in the dark...not to mention it was 40 degrees out.
the subway let us off at 34th and broadway and we biked our way 20 blocks through the city to Pier 94 where the race would start.
This captures how we all felt after standing around in minishorts for an hour waiting for the race to begin.....
getting in line for a 7:30 start
5,000 riders
Ashley diving into the first closed down tunnel..........
the views from the bike were amazing
Ashley sporting the Vail jersey proudly:)racer style
Meagan riding away

the weather was perfect
our first rest stop at 20 miles at inwood park
we entered the Lincoln tunnel at mile 30 and were broken down into smaller riding groups to prevent pile-ups. we were given the "talk" by this man. they had closed down the tunnel to all cars and we were alble to zoom through it at 32 mph.......
the 2nd rest stop at mile 35, pumping ourselves up for all of the upcoming hills.

Does Meagan look pro or what:)! finishing off a nice 1.5 mile climb
all of the steep hills were through the winding Palisades park in New Jersey

mile 50 rest stop.....16 miles to go!
we rode over the George Washington bridge at mile 62....amazing

DONE! Actual riding time was 5.5 hours. Total mileage for the day was 75 miles! We relaxed in the Expo tent at the finish line before having to get back on our bikes to tackle the NYC traffic and subway back to the hotel.
